Lansing’s Genealogy Project

Do you have roots in Michigan ? You may want to participate in celebrating Lansing, Michigan’s 150th anniversary with some genealogy!

The Mid-Michigan Genealogical Society is compiling a history of families who have lived in Lansing over the last 150 years. They will then publish a book containing the research of selected families. They will select families that may have been prominent in the community as well as others that are not as well known. Families selected will be of diverse ethnic background, race, economic class, and social standing. Heading up the project are Jim LaLone (jplalone@prodigy.net) or Jesse LaSorda (jlasorda12@hotmail.com). Volunteers are needed for the research phase of the project. The Lansing metropolitan area, colloquially referred to as “Mid-Michigan,” is an important center for educational, cultural, governmental, business, and high-tech manufacturing institutions, including three medical schools (two human medicine and one veterinary), two nursing schools, two law schools, a Big Ten Conference university (Michigan State), the state capital, the state Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, a federal court, the Library of Michigan and Historical Center, and headquarters of four national insurance companies. Lansing is the only U.S. state capital (among the 46 located in counties) that is not also a county seat.
