- [14] 1780 – The [15] Great Hurricane of 1780: One of the deadliest [16] Atlantic hurricanes on record struck the [17] Caribbean, killing at least 22,000 people over the next several days.
- [18] 1868 – [19] Carlos Manuel de Céspedes made the Grito de Yara, declaring [20] Cuban independence from [21] Spain, sparking the [22] Ten Years’ War.
